82.8% of Wheaton Warrenville South High School and college students say they buy into clothing trends seen on the internet.

According to CNN, “We have the rise of social media to thank for that. The line between street style and high fashion all but disappeared, with social media influencers launching trends, and fashion shows becoming Instagrammable moments”.

Social media influencers such as: Virgil Abloh, Odell Beckham Jr, Ryan Garcia, Selena Gomez, Kylie Jenner, Travis Scott, and Kanye West all have signed with a reputable clothing and shoe brand since their careers took off. Abloh, Scott and West’s signature sneakers create trends amongst hypebeasts in the street style fashion. Abercrombie and Fitch, Adidas, Louis Vuitton, Off-White, Nike, and Pacsun were amongst the companies that these influencers have signed with throughout the years.

A survey asked a mix of 35 Wheaton Warrenville South and college students about fashion trends seen online. 82.8% of teenagers answered “yes” and “sometimes” when questioned if they buy into fashion trends seen on social media. The final results indicated that Nike, Adidas, and Pacsun were amongst the top three brands to shop from amongst these teenagers. They also answered, “very likely” when asked if they would purchase from these brands again in the near future.

WWS senior Christina Warner said she likes Nike and Adidas because of the comfort. They make clothes that are comfortable and that look good”, stated warner on why she would purchase from these two brands again in the future.

In addition, Maximus Perez, a WWS sophomore had this to say about Pacsun. “They have great quality”. Perez added why he would purchase from Pacsun again in the future, “They always come out with new designs for their clothes”.

Lastly, Amber Mueller, a WWS senior, had this to say about why she likes Nike, “They are super comfortable and easily accessible”. Mueller added why she would re-purchase from Nike again in the future, “I am very familiar with them and like wearing the items I already have from them”.

Forbes magazine had this to say about Abercrombie and Fitch, “It’s also remodeled stores, including removing dark shutters to make shops brighter, and has shortened the time it takes to design products. The company has also increased online sales. Just as importantly, it’s been seeking to strike a chord with today’s millennials and Gen Z consumers by embracing inclusive, body-positive and other more on-point messages.

These were just some of the changes brought on upon Abercrombie’s newest C.E.O., Fran Horowitz, to attract new customers into its newly revamped stores.

According to fibre2fashion, “Trends in fashion unify women and men around the world, yet they still allow people the ability to portray their own individual style at the same time. Fashion can change from one second to the next, but what never changes is the hold it has over society, and the role it plays in the modern world”.
