Lollapalooza, commonly known as Lolla, is an annual music festival held over the course of four days at Grant Park in our very own Windy City. In a brief review of Lolla’s history, Chicago Tribune wrote of Lollapalooza’s beginnings in which it “…was created in 1991 by singer Perry Farrell as a farewell tour for his band Jane’s Addiction.” Lolla turned from touring across the states to settling down in Chicago in 2010 after a short break from 1997 through 2005. But not only does Lolla exist in Chicago, but it has also spread to nine other countries across the globe.

This year’s line-up consists of more than 170 artists with favorites including Billie Eilish, Karol G, Kendrick Lamar, The 1975, Odesza, Tomorrow X Together, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Lana Del Ray performing.

Maggie Bebar, a sophomore at South, who is heading to Chicago for this year’s festival, is looking forward to seeing some of her favorite artists as well as discovering new music. She said, “It has a different variety of music and so, so many artists that many people like, all playing in a few days.”  When thinking about whether or not to go to Lolla, Bebar advises, “It really depends on how many of the artists you already like and if you can pay for it.”

The festival spans from August 3-6 with prices starting at $125 for one-day general admission and capping at $4350 for a four day platinum ticket, not including premium packages. More information can be found on lollapalooza.com/tickets. Down payments range anywhere from $20 to $250.

Make sure to get tickets soon for this year’s festival because you don’t want to miss it!
