The Wiesbrook Fun Fair hit a record high in volunteers’ attendance last weekend. The school was filled with high school and middle school volunteers just looking to give back to the community, many of them that went to Wiesbrook years ago.

In years past many high school students looking to get volunteer hours just sign up for any event they are offered and only half of the students show up to the event, leaving the organization shorthanded. This was not an issue with this year’s Fun Fair. Almost 85% of the students that signed up for the event showed up for their shift and gave their time to the community.

“Everyone that signed up for the event showed up, so it was a really good statement for our high school and the accountability we have at National Honors Society and Key Club” said Senior at Wheaton Warrenville South Will Cassin. The NHS volunteer also praised the fun environment these kids were offered in this event. “I really wish Whittier Elementary School had something like this because it seems like an awesome experience for these kids to have growing up” said Whittier alum Will Cassin.

Although this event is a great opportunity for students looking to get volunteer hours, it means more than just a signature on a volunteer sheet for many volunteers. “I grew up coming to the Fun Fair so it’s awesome to give back and be a part of creating the fun atmosphere for these kids” said sophomore Matthew Alman who’s been involved in the Fun Fair for several years. “It’s really all about the kids and how we can make it fun for them”

This general consensus across all volunteers of wanting to give the kids the best experience is what really makes this event special. The Wiesbrook Fun Fair has filled childrens hearts for several years, and will continue to create fun in years to come.
