New Years Resolutions

What is the importance of making New Year’s Resolutions? January first is the best day to start the improvement of one’s lifestyle.  It could be as simple as jogging a mile at least once to twice a week or cutting soda out of one’s diet. Typically, more than half of New Year’s resolutions fail but one solution is to make a resolution about keeping and achieving them. This year, try to succeed and identify the right resolution. To make sure one promises to achieve their goals, set doable and meaningful goals; make it personal, and share out loud with others.

It’s important to be able to find suitable goals for the year. Historically, New Year’s resolutions have been around for quite some time. “The ancient Babylonians are said to have been the first people to make New Year’s resolutions, some 4,000 years ago,” according to History Channel.  Babylonians reportedly made promises to their Gods in hope of good luck for the new year, just as we today set goals for ourselves to improve our lifestyles. In order to make sure one achieves their goals, the first step is to learn how to organize them. Find a goal that is not only suitable but also doable to your liking and it can be multiple resolutions. The next step is to write them down on a piece of paper.  “Vividly describing your goals in write form is strongly associated with goal success, and people who very vividly describe or picture their goals are anywhere from 1.2 to 1.4 times more likely to successfully accomplish their goals,” says Forbes Magazine. Whether it seems stupid, and pointless, writing down goals or sharing them out loud to a crowd helps maintain the goal in the brain, making it more likely for one to achieve it. Though, it seems unlikely for one to complete a new years resolution and keep it for 365 days, there are ways such as sharing goals or finding realistic resolutions to avoid being unambitious and hypocritical.

It’s now or never to set resolutions for the early months and so on, whether it’s something small such as not procrastinating laundry, or as big as hoping to compete in a championship, any resolution is a step to improving one’s lifestyle. Resolutions or goals have been proven to help individuals be successful in life, it helps sustain momentum and motivation, trigger new behaviors, and even lead to a healthier, happier and more fulfilling life.
