Wheaton Warrenville South High School’s show choir, The Classics and Esprit, recently just showcased their competition show at their second competition in Bettendorf, Iowa on Saturday, Feb. 4. This competition has proved as an opportunity to showcase their show choir spirit, and practice again for the later performances later on in the season. The students involved in making this happen worked hard in rehearsals prior to that week to show how their shows had improved from the last competition last month. “The Bettendorf competition was very successful and proved that the show choir students have resiliency,” expressed Chris Miller, the lead director of the show choir singers of The Classics. “I am very proud of how they wiped the slate clean and came back with an impactful performance which was undoubtedly the best run of the year.”

Esprit, the all girls show choir, performed their energetic show early in the morning to start the day off with a bang. Then early that afternoon The Classics, Wheaton Warrenville South’s mixed group, presented their show for the audience of parents and other kids from other groups that arrived. Later that night, both Esprit and The Classics made it into finals, which is where they had a chance to go on stage and perform another time in efforts for the grand champion title. All said and done, Esprit received first place in their division, and also was granted fifth runner up overall. The Classics ended up getting first place overall and reviving the title of the grand champion. The Classics also won best choreography, and best band. As said by James Sabota, a fellow Classics member, ”Honestly some of the most fun I’ve had in my whole life, and it’s been great to see all the hard work pay off.”

In the Esprit, there are around 50 student singers. Our band ,which plays for Esprit and The Classics, has around 20 bandmates, which is directed by Brian Mcallister. In The Classics there are 50 singers too. Overall, the Bettendorf competition was a success, because everyone had fun, while doing amazingly in the competition. Esprit and The Classics have proven that they are a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
