Newspaper Club Qualifies for State!

On Saturday, April 1 Wheaton Warrenville South students in the newspaper club competed in the IHSA Journalism Sectionals. 

Kendall Eddington, editor-in-chief, competed in editorial writing and newspaper design. Tomas Moran, co-copy editor, competed in sports writing and copy editing. Tyler Bouris, staff writer, competed in review writing. The students placed in the top five for nearly all the categories they competed in, with Kendall Eddington qualifying for state in newspaper design.

The IHSA Journalism State competition was hosted by Heartland Community College in Normal, Ill. WWS competed against schools from all over the state. Eddington placed came in fifth place in the state competition for newspaper design. This is the second year in a row that she received at medal at the state competition. 

Overall, it has been a great year for the newspaper club with new members joining and even more members competing in the IHSA Journalism Series. Thank you to all the staff members who continue to support the newspaper club; especially Principal McDermott, who traveled all the way to Normal, Ill. to support the students competing at state. This is the second year in a row the newspaper club has qualified for state-something that has not happened in decades!
