On Friday, Sep. 1 the Wheaton Warrenville South football team went over to Lyons Township with plenty of energy following a statement win against the Simeon Wolverines the prior week. The Tigers battled all game in a defensive duel; however, they fell 13-zero after the Lions established a strong run game.
The defense stood strong through two quarters with big tackles from John Jensen and Vuk Mandic. The Lions were unable to run the ball, and they were forced to punt the ball. However, three-year-starting quarterback, Ryan Jackson, used his elusive ability to find a wide-open receiver in the endzone due to a bust in coverage by cornerback, Connor Sliwa.
The Tigers received the opening kickoff of the second half; yet, were unable to move the ball despite an explosive catch and run by Joe Preede. Unfortunately, a 31-yard kick was missed by Maison Haas and the Tigers redemption drive was unable to yield any points. Our offense struggled the rest of the game. The absence of Matt Crider, who sustained a high ankle sprain before the first game, was felt on the field.
