Wheaton Warrenville South High School’s show choirs, The Classics and Esprit, performed at their third competition, the Clash of the Sequins in Naperville, Ill. on Saturday, Feb. 17. Clearly, this contest shows itself as an immense opportunity to showcase their show choir talents. The students involved in executing this production worked very hard in rehearsals leading to the show date to show how they had improved from their previous performances. Esprit has around 52 student singers. Our extremely talented band that plays for Esprit and The Classics, has around 15 bandmates, and The Classics has 50 singers.
Esprit, the all-girls show choir, performed their resilient show early in the morning to start the day off with great spirit. On Feb. 17, The Classics, Wheaton Warrenville South’s mixed group, performed their show for the crowd of parents and various kids from the other groups that attended the competition. Later that evening, both groups, Esprit and The Classics, made it to the final stage, which is where they had a second chance to perform on stage in an effort for the grand champion title. All said and done, Esprit received first place in their division and also was granted fourth place overall in the Finals. The Classics ended up receiving the first-place title, which revived the title of grand champions for The Classics for the first time in this year’s show choir season. The Classics also won best choreography, best vocals, and best band. James Sabota, a member of The Classics shared: “ Clash of the Sequins is my favorite competition. The people are so nice, and the gym is big and a super exciting place to perform. Sweeping there again this year is especially exhilarating after the rocky start the first two competitions have brought us. We are hoping for some more wins later this season, but The Clash is always a highlight.”
The Clash of the Sequins competition was an astounding success because everyone had a fun weekend full of memories while doing amazingly in the competition. Esprit and The Classics have shown that they are doing something right, and will continue to do great for years to come.
