Wheaton Warrenville South High School girls varsity volleyball gains another win against Naperville Central High School on August 27. The volleyball teams played at Wheaton Warrenville South’s orange and black gym. This was Wheaton’s second game in their new season.
The first point of the game was scored by Tessa Gonzalez. Gonzalez played in the front row, middle position, she jumped up for the block which caused a deflection and point for the tigers.
Wheatons teamwork and dedication helped them take a 15-9 lead in the first set. Their hard work forces Naperville Central High School to call the first timeout for the game. The delay helped Central a little but it was no match for the tigers. Lauren Coyne, University of Miami of Ohio volleyball commit, heats a cross court kill getting the winning point for that set. Wheaton won the first set 25-16.
To start the second set of strong Coyne services an ace, no one touched the ball, into the court to win the first point of that set. The tigers stay in the lead of the set but the Redhawks are fighting back. The points go back and forth throughout the set but Wheaton seems to have found their groove. Wheaton pulls ahead of the game with the score 14-11. The Tigers continue to dominate the rest of the half. This results in the final score of the second set to be 25-13.
This leads the Tigers to their second victory of the season as they prepare for their upcoming tournament for the following weekend.
