On Friday, Aug. 30, Wheaton Warrenville South Varsity Football team took on Glenbard South High School at Red Grange Field for the first game of the season. There were fans from both WWS and Glenbard South thre supporting their players.

Quickly into the first quarter, Luca Carbonaro scored the first touchdown from the 25-yard line putting WWS six points ahead. The WWS student cheering section erupted with cheers and you could feel the bleachers beneath your feet shake with energy and hear the buzzing of students screaming all around. Not only did Carbonaro make one touchdown, but with 4 minutes and 35 seconds left in the first quarter, he scored a second one. WWS celebrated with loud cheers and blaring music.
Outside of the student cheering section, parents and students gather in line at the concessions stand to recharge for the second quarter. On the east side of the field, an abundance of middle schoolers gathered on the bleachers to cheer on the WWS football team. A portion of them, lined up on the gates, shaking them back and forth to express their excitement
At the end of the second quarter, WWS was in the lead with 29 points, and Glenbard South was still at zero. During halftime, the marching band, cheerleaders, and baton throwers put on a show for the crowd. The cheerleaders were thrown into the air, did back handsprings and backflips across the field and all while staying on beat with the marching band. The baton throwers followed the marching bands lead and threw their flags multiple times up into the air before coming back down again.
With only 2 minutes left into the third quarter, Owen York, WWS running back scored a touchdown for the team. Towards the end of the game, Glenbard South scored a field goal and a touchdown. Wheaton Warrenville South takes the win with a final score of 35 to 10.
