Have you ever attended the annual Winter Art Show at Wheaton Warrenville South HS? On Thursday, Dec. 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Wheaton Warrenville South students showed off all kinds of works, from Architecture and Painting to Pottery and Stop Motion. During the school day, teachers had the opportunity to take their classes to view the brilliant art made by their peers on Monday, Dec. 9 and Tuesday, Dec. 10. Students brought their visions to life in so many different artistic explorations.
The architectural classes created a variety of structures, including houses and stadiums, each one unique to every student’s ideas. The jewelry classes displayed beautifully made pieces such as necklaces, bracelets, rings, and hairpins. The drawing and painting classes made art pieces on canvas using pencil, pen, watercolors, and oil paint. Photography classes showcased their colorful or black and white photos. The ceramics classes featured a multitude of sculptures of varying vibrant colors. The videography classes made stop-motion and different artistic interpretation videos that captivated all who had the pleasure of attending the Winter Art Show.
The art classes at Wheaton Warrenville South offer students a variety of opportunities to grow and develop artistically. Our out classes provide students a way to express creativity while further developing their artistic skills.
There are opportunities for everyone no matter your artistic abilities with classes ranging from I level to AP level. The Winter Art Show is always an amazing opportunity to get to see how talented all the students are. With such diverse pieces, each represents an individual student’s achievements, experiences, perspectives, and challenges.
Max Dudick, an architecture seminar student, created a stadium model of a football stadium. He started by taking drafting 1 and 2 during his freshman and sophomore years. His stadium is sponsored by his neighbor, who is a realtor for Keller Williams, hence the logo that appears out outside of the stadium. Dudick won the 3D Art Principal Award.
James Kurinsky made five pieces in the AP art class. He created pieces on a canvas that aimed to exaggerate the human figure in unique ways. He also created a digital drawing based on a music video in collaboration with Chef Will on the song “Prove” for an animation class. Kurinsky won the Principal 2D Art Award.
Don’t worry if you missed the Winter Art Show, because there is another one in the spring!
