On Friday, February 2nd, the Wheaton Warrenville South Track and Field team won its first meet of the indoor season, scoring 82.5 total points. The second highest team, Deerfield, had 73 points.

Distance runners Scott Maison and Sean Maison led the team to a victory in their respective races, the 3200m and the 1600m.  Sean finished second in the 1600m with a time of 4:34.16. Scott Maison won the 3200m with a time of 10:01.57.

“We had a great Cross Country season and one of the reasons we had a great cross country season was because of the hefty goals we put on ourselves before the season started and I want to replicate that in track not only individually but as a team as well.”

The sprinters for the Tigers also had a great meet, with Senior Sprinter Cedric Rowsey coming in third place in the 60m dash. Senior Robert Gerwing finished in 6th place in the 200m dash.

The meet did not go as planned for some veterans on the team, but the Tigers were able to pull off the win as they were expected to. Senior Pole Vaulter, Jake MacConnachie, is using this meet as motivation to keep getting better. “I have the same goals as last year, just trying to progress as the season goes on, and focusing mostly on the state meet in May.” MacConachie finished 9th in the state meet last year and believes he can do even better this year.

The first meet of the season went about as smoothly as it possibly could. “We only had two weeks to train for it,” Maison says. “We know where we’re at now and we have a base to start at.” This Tiger Track and Field team has made a name for themselves over the last few years and they are definitely a team to watch closely this season.
