Have you ever wanted to go to a fun, luau-themed dance? During the week of Sept. 22, Wheaton Warrenville South students got excited for the school’s “Aloha, Tiger Nation” – themed homecoming. The week started with a pre-homecoming assembly, where the Homecoming Spirit Week themes and Homecoming Court nominees were announced.
Homecoming Week started with Vendor Day, where breakfast sandwiches, bundt cakes, morning beverages, and other treats were available for purchase before school.
Students surfed into Luau Day, and everything went swimmingly as students engaged in activities at Main Event, an indoor entertainment venue, such as a rope course, laser tag games, and arcade games.
Next, students jumped into the Homecoming Parade, where the school’s sports and activities were represented. Some sports teams even had floats, and the Homecoming Court had a float showing off all the kids who were nominated for the school’s four pillars — Honor, Integrity, Scholarship, and Commitment.
Then, students boarded the boat for the Movie Night of Moana, set sail to get snacks at concessions, and then lay down their cozy blankets and sang their hearts out to beloved tunes like “You’re Welcome” and “Shiny”.
As the week came to an end, the school joined together for the Homecoming Assembly, which featured a special performance from a former America’s Got Talent contestant who performed epic hula hoop tricks, and fun dances from the dance team.
Cheerleaders and the football team had enjoyable performances. The football team won a victory at the “White Out” game with a score of 35-28 against Glenbard North.
Finally, students had a night to remember at the Homecoming Dance. The DJ spun the tunes and students danced the night away. Students cooled down afterward with some Kona Ice snowcones.
To conclude, we want to say a big thanks to the teachers and staff who made the enjoyable week and lively dance possible. It was an exciting week and time of school spirit.
